Frequently Asked Questions
What if it’s raining? – rain makes no difference to wheels as they come off and are taken into the shelter of the back of the van (regardless of weather). Paintwork jobs can be disrupted by rain and high winds. I have a 3mx3m gazebo which protects against light to medium levels of rain.

Is your work guaranteed? – Yes, for one year, though it should last a lot longer if looked after. There are exclusions such as new damage and corrosion.

Do you take the wheel off? - Yes

Do you take the tyre off? – No. In some rare cases the bead of the tyre needs “breaking” using a special machine. This is the first stage of tyre removal, dropping the tyre off the rim by 1 to 2 cm allowing more room. When re-inflated it pops the tyre back on in exactly the same place, meaning there is no need to re-balance the wheel.

Do I need my wheels re-balancing? – No (because the tyre is not removed). Nothing about the repair process or removing/refitting a wheel would cause a need to rebalance a wheel and tyre.

Do I need a 4-wheel alignment? – No. Wheels are designed to be taken off and put back on a car. They bolt flat on to the hub. Aligning wheels is about suspension geometry and requires adjusting track rod ends.

Do you need electricity? - Ideally yes. I have 40m of extension lead. In environments such as blocks of flats I can run my generator.

Do I need a driveway for you to work on? – Ideally yes, but wheels can be removed whilst parked in a quiet-ish road. In order to paint bodywork in the road it would need to be a very quiet street.

Do you work Sundays? - No

Do you work Saturdays? – Sometimes (mornings only). This tend to be for medium size jobs only e.g x4 wheels

Can you come today or tomorrow? – No, this is not a hand to mouth business. If getting it done quickly is more important than getting it done properly, this is not the company for you! Lead times are around one week in winter and two weeks in summer.

How do you know the paint colour and get the paint? – Nearly all manufacturers display the paint code on the car (except Ford). This can then be entered in my paint system software which tells me the ingredient colours and the quantity to the nearest 100th of a gram. Except for Fords, I do not require any info about colour prior to arrival.
